Where can I find a job?

So, you’re all ready to become a scientific writer!  Let’s start looking for a career.  Many of these positions will be remote, so you can work anywhere in the world.

The first place you should check is LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is a phenomenal platform and allows you to filter jobs with ease, ensuring an efficient method to look and apply for careers.  An effective LinkedIn profile possesses the following elements:

  • a well-defined headline
  • a 4-5 sentence long, well written paragraph that summarizes your skills and knowledge areas
  • university degree(s) and graduation year(s)
  • work and research history (include your undergraduate research here!)
  • any publications
  • any certificates (including the fundamentals of scientific writing!)

Each of your work history sections should have bullet points of information, highlighting your accomplishments and duties.  If you’re fresh out of university, highlight the clubs, societies, and events you took part in.

When applying to positions, you also need to attach your resume.  This should be formatted similarly to your LinkedIn.  It is recommended to not put your graduation year.  By having it, some subconscious bias may form against you due to being “too young” or “too old” for the position.  Let your work experience shine!  Your age does not matter.
